How it works!

This section of the web page is dedicated to demonstrating how the survey application works at www.PersonalityScience.org.

    Here's why you should care:

  • The online study has collected some 1100 responses since being pubished. This is 1100 people who spent a good half hour to an hour filling out around 600 questions. Durring the "extra credit for students" phase, the site was recieving approximately 30 people per day until the extra credit quota was reached.
  • AFTER she had collected all the data she required from the University, an additional 300 random people across the planet have also taken the survey and more are coming in every day. These extra submissions were from every continent on the planet, except Africa and Antarctica. Most of the non-University of Minnesota submissions though were from within the U.S.
  • For a psychologist to collect that much information by surveying students individually, it would take approximately 2-3 hours per participant. a.k.a. 24 hours a day for 114 days.
  • For a psychologist to collect that much information by surveying students in large groups, they would be collecting perhaps 25 people a week for 44 weeks.
  • What's more is that 99% of the content of the survey is controlled by the researcher. There is no need to get the web developers involved to modify the contents of the survey.
  • Carolyn spent her time telling other psychology students how many people filled out her study while she sipped hot cocoa and worked on other pressing matters.
  • I have compiled a sample survey that should demonstrate the following:

  • What the user sees when they take a survey,
  • What the study administrator sees when controlling the survey,
  • What options the study administrators have when creating the survey,
  • How data security is handled,
  • How the data is outputted,
  • A brief history of this particular project.
  • I have laid out the tour in the following fashion:

  • First you take the short sample survey to see what the participants in the study will see.
  • Second, while you're taking the survey, you will see comments concerning the various aspects of the application.
  • Third you will be taken on a tour of the study administration section where you see first hand how the study administrators web enabled their studies.
  • If you have questions, comments, concerns, advise, please don't hesitate to email me at support@personalityscience.org. I'm an independent web developer who is always eager to hear responses as well as getting new business. You may access my homepage through the links at the very bottom of this page.
